What is Profhilo®?

Profhilo® is an aesthetic product that is BDDE-free, meaning that there is no cross-linking/volume-enhancing element to it and it helps to reduce skin laxity. It offers one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA) on the market. Hydration and youthful skin are part of the quality of HA and with age, HA reduces making the skin sag and droop. So the Profhilo®, with its very high concentration of HA will increase hydration and improve the remodeling of skin tissue and give your skin the much need boost it may need and improve the aging appearance and sagging.

Profhilo® is not a dermal filler, so it does not plump or volumise your skin, it is a bio-remodeling agent, which is becoming increasingly more popular. Profhilo® consists of 2 types of HA and it is this combination that not only makes the product effective in remodeling your skin, which reduces laxity, but it also makes it a longer-lasting product.

How is Profhilo® administered?

Profhilo® is injected into the face and there are five injections points on each side. It is recommended that each treatment be four weeks apart.

Profhilo® reduces laxity and hydrates as previously mentioned. It is injected just under the surface of the skin, where it spreads rapidly. This quality is due to the lack of the cross-linking agent that you get in dermal fillers. The product then reacts with your skin to enhance hydration. Why we recommend four weeks between treatments, it takes time for the process to work. After initially spreading out in your skin and hydrating it, later in the process collagen and elastin production is boosted within the dermis layer of the skin. This helps to give the skin a more smooth, firmer look, hence making it more youthful.

If you are a person who also likes anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers, you can also add Profhilo® to your treatment program. It doesn’t stop you from having other treatments (discuss this with your practitioner) and be a part of you personalised treatment plan to improve your look and appearance or it can be simply used by itself, it depends on the individual and their needs.

Is Profhilo® for me?

Profhilo® is used to create a firmer more youthful look and its due to the aging process that most clients tend to be 35 years and over.

If you are not happy with your skin laxity, it’s sagging, wrinkles are forming and your skin is losing its tone and firmness as well as other signs of aging, then Profhilo® could be for you. However, before any treatment at Morgan’s Skin Clinic, it is advised to discuss your treatment options to see what best suits you, what’s appropriate and most relevant, assess medical health and history, discuss your expectations and possible results, before you commit to a treatment. We work with you and form an individual personalised treatment plan that best for you and your skin.
What is Profhilo like to have done?

As Profhilo® is injected into and just under the skin using fine and sterilised needles into the five pre-determined locations, it is relatively painless. There may be a pinprick sensation or short sharp scratch, but this sensation is momentary. Clients using numbing cream if they so wish 10-15 minutes before the injections are to be performed. Normally, however, it is not required.

The injections are done fairly quickly and the whole treatment time is no more than 10 minutes.
Aftercare

There is no downtime with Profhilo®. However, like a lot of aesthetic treatments you are advised to avoid blood-thinning medication, avoid getting hot e.g. excessive sun, sunbeds, saunas, spas and strenuous exercise as well as drinking lots of alcohol for 24-48 hours afterwards. We also advise not to wear make-up for 24 hours also, so chose your time to have the treatment that suits your work and social schedule.

Are there any risks or side-effects?

There are no long-term side-effects with Profhilo® as it is metabolised by the body completely. The risk of an allergic reaction is also significantly reduced due to the lack of synthetic chemicals.

Common side effects consist of redness, slight bruising, tenderness, and possible itching at the injection sites, but these will often tend to go within a short period of time.
How long does Profhilo® last?

Results from Profhilo® can last anything from 6 to 12 months, depending on the individual, their reaction, and the metabolism of the product. Everyone is different and responds in different ways, like any other facial treatments, so it’s difficult to be exact, but it will several months. Once you have completed your 2-3 treatments to get the desired effect, we recommend a 3-month “top-up” to keep maintain the look to have achieved. This will continue to keep your skin firm, hydrated, and in good condition.
